Funeral funding payments, upon your death, if made directly to Eirene, have no negative tax consequences at the time of need. As a matter of fact, because of your caring guidance and a guaranteed contract, your family may not have to worry about an increase in service price, if costs have risen.

If the death benefit payment made to a beneficiary instead of a funeral provider, those funds are gifted to that person, 100% tax free.

You can also preplan additional funds to be provided to your family members upon your death, to address other immediate concerns, such as their travel, your monument or estate administration expenses. These funds are usually available within 72 hours of the claim application by the funeral provider, through direct deposit.

If the death benefit payment is made to your estate rather than a beneficiary, there may be some tax implications depending on your particular situation. If you have questions regarding estate taxation, or personal tax planning we recommend speaking with a specialist in your province, such as an accountant or financial advisor.
